Europas dubbelmoral

Hörde på radio igår att Frankrike har ett speciellt program för att locka högutbildade nordafrikaner till Frankrike för att arbeta. Det är ju helt makalöst. Man vill stänga gränsen till dessa fattiga och orosdrabbade länder så inte människor ska kunna lämna dom för bättre liv i mer välfunerade delar av världen. Men de få som lyckats utbilda sig och som kan bidra till dessa länders positiva utveckling och framtida stabilitet; dessa försöker vi samtidigt locka till Europa. Kan man ha en mer utarbetad och diabolisk dubbelmoral? Helt makalöst! Vi borde skämmas!

The green-house gas company

I have a proposal for a new company. It will be located in Sahara where a huge green-house will be built. The volume shall consist of a long glass tunnel which is gas-tight to the surrounding. In the tunnel, a new plant will be grown. This plant will be gene modified to operate in a very high CO2 atmosphere of, say, 20%. It will also be designed to be super efficient in converting CO2 to useful compounds, e.g. some natural gas or wood that can be use in construction. The third design criterion is that the plant should use salty water for its sustained operation. Hence, water can be extracted from the Mediterranean see. CO2 will be distributed in pipes from the whole of Europe and since it is costly for industry to produce CO2, we will charge for taking their CO2.

Valutspel: S vill ge en extra vecka ledigt för föräldrar. Detta är väl ändå lågmärket på populism från S. Jag är en av förmånstagarna i den här reformen men blir otroligt besviken. Så fel. Det finns grupper med så oerhört mycket större behov! Skola vård invandring. Här är vår tids utmaningar (och sysselsättning såklart). Inte småbarnsföräldrar! Vi har ett otroligt tufft livspussel att få ihop. Men det är självförvållad lyxproblem! Har man inga bättre ideer på vad som kan göras med 5 miljarder kanske man inte ska regera.

I just read Googles post Android 9 Pie: Powered by AI for a smarter, simpler experience that adapts to you and have a prediction. It will drive users mad! It will be yet another stupid AI system that will do stuff I do not want it to do. When will they release a dumber UI? I am all for!

The octonions are not the founation of physics

I recently read a very interesting piece on the octonions and some argument for that they should be used to form the foundation of physics.

My (current and not very informed) take on this is that they should not. The algebra of the octonions is non-associative. But our world is associative. This really says that our world is not based on he octonions. Instead one should focus on finding a generalized quantum theory based on the quaternions. They capture our world most closely by being non-commutative. As rotations in 4d space is.

The future promised by autonomous vehicles

I lone for the time when my car will drive by it self so that I can spend my time on more productive things. But this is really only one aspect of what autonomous vehicles promises. Some other things that will happen are

• Infrastructure utilization will become much much much more efficient. For commuters this will for example mean that a 2+2 lane highway of today, will be a 3+1 lane highway in the morning, and 1+3 in the evening. Or any other combination that will be optimal for the situation. We will go from a TDMA system to OFDMA.
• Trucks will not be present on the streets at daytime. Since transportation can be done at any time of the day, rush hour will be reserved for commuters and other times of the day the streets will be utilized by other vehicles.
• In the more near-time it will be forbidden for human drivers to drive on certain streets. To begin with, on highways, where autonomous vehicles will provide much higher safety.
• Vehicles will be controlled by open source software such as Baidus Apollo. Closes source alternatives will dominate initially, but they will not be able to compete in the long run, but open source will take over, both due to superior security/safety and price.

• Religiösa friskolor kommer förbjudas.
• Skatten kommer höjas med 1-2 kr för att finansiera ett Samhal för nyanlända. Här kommer alla nyanlända erbjudas arbete. Vidare kommer ingen annan ersättning erbjudas, utan de som kommer hit och som har arbetsförmåga kommer krävas att de börjar arbeta här för att få uppehållstillstånd. Alternativt när som helst hitta ett eget arbete och börja där istället.
• Staten kommer börja erbjuda följande digitala tjänster
• En digital statlig valuta
• Ett statligt signerat digitalt certifikat till alla medborgare att använda i all privat kommunikation
• Staten kommer starta ett nytt telekombolag med det generella uppdraget att tillhandahålla internetåtkomst för hela landet. Detta kan t.ex. täckas med hjälp av sattellit i avlägsna regioner.
• SVT och SR kommer omformas och slås samman till ett statligt mediebolag med det generella uppdraget att tillhandahålla media till den svenska befolkningen.
• Det kommer bli förbjudet att tvinga barn delta i gudstjänster och all form av omskärelse kommer bli olaglig.
• Generell audiell bandbreddsanvändning kommer börja kräva licens (liknade de licenser som krävs för elektromagnetisk bandbredd). Detta kommer t.ex. påverka idrottsevenemang, kyrkklockor, böneutrop från moskéer mm.
• All form av vinstuttag i välfärdssektorn kommer förbjudas.
• Privata sjukvårdsförsäkringar kommer beskattas med 100% mer än idag.
• Lärarlöner kommer höjas radikalt samtidigt kommer kraven på lärarutbildningen kraftigt skärpas. Likaså kommer kraven på pedagogiska ledare kraftigt höjas för att säkerställa kvaliteten i Svensk skola.
• Staten kommer starta ett bolag liknande DropBox där alla svenska medborgare över 12 år kommer erbjudas ett digitalt förvaringsvalv som är säkerhetskopierat och e2e-krypterat och baserat på öppen källkod och helt transparent.
• Alla projekt som jobbar på höghastighetsjärnväg kommer avbrytas och motsvarande budget kommer läggas på forskning på  autonoma system, t.ex. fordon, och elektrifiering.
• Jobbskatteavdraget kommer försvinna och motsvarande skattereduktion delas ut jämnt över hela befolkningen.
• Utländska spelbolag kommer förbjudas verka i Sverige.
• Skatten på tobak och alkohol kommer dubblas
• Skatten på  fossila bränslen kommer höjas för privatpersoner
• Marijuana kommer legaliseras och få samma status som tobak och alkohol
• Slöjden och hemkunskapen kommer få nya läroplaner som kommer täcka det dessa ämnen borde täcka, t.ex. IT säkerhet, hur man lagar en byxa, hur man sätter upp en gipsvägg, hur man koppar in en ny TV.

Skurkarna har hittat ännu ett sätt att profitera på oss konsumenter

I Framtidens ingenjörskarriär juni 2017 skriver SEBs CIO Nicholas Moch att
"Här går bankerna från att ha tjänat pengar på in- och utlåning till att ha information som sin främsta affärs- och inkomstmöjlighet. Våra kunder, både privata och företag, kommer också snart förvänta sig en proaktivitet från oss banker,..."
Vad han menar med "... snart förvänta sig...." är att eftersom bankerna nu insett att dom kan tjäna pengar på all den information dom har om oss, så kan vi kunder räkna med att bankerna kommer börja profitera på detta.
Med andra ord, vi kan vänta oss att bankerna börjar smyga in klausuler i sina användaravtal kring att de har rätt till den transaktionsinformation de har om sina kunder och att de har rätt att profitera på den, t.ex. genom att sälja den, eller rikta reklam baserat på tidigare konsumtionsmönster.
Härligt.

Two things to note about the Uber car killing

Since this is the first fatality I think one thing that is interesting to highlight is that this sad accident is not of the type autonomous vehicle people love to bring up: how will the car decide between the baby and two adults... blah blah. Just like almost all accidents aren't. Thus, those corner cases are simply not important. That should really be remembered. What is important is to avoid regular accident due to imperfect sensor data and poor detection algorithms. Like this one. This is same as the accidents when humans are driving.

Further, there are calculations now claiming autonomous cars are about 25 times more likely to hit a pedestrian than a human driver. This was interpreted as that the is not safe and not ready and so on. However, I would like to claim the very opposite. Looking at technology development, we know Moore's law, indicating a doubling of processor performance in every 18 months. If this type of scaling i applied to the performance of autonomous vehicles, it gives that they will perform on term with a human driver in five years. In five more, the autonomous vehicles will outperform humans by a factor 32. This is the kind of scaling we can expect. Since we are only a factor 32 away from human performance today, we should be celebrating, we are almost there. Making cars much safer than they used to be. This is great news!

So the banks see a threat in Bitcoint and they don't even care to come up with a proper lie to argue why they should kill it. They'll "protect" the customers by limiting their possibilities to purchase things using their cards. Bah! Net neutrality is nothing compared to this. Where is bank neutrality? They should not give a fuck about what their customers chose to purchase as long as it is legal.

A Swedish "no"

Sweden is arguably one of the nicest countries to live in in the world by most metrices. That however, does not mean we can't improve. The other day I proposed something for a colleague. The response I got was "let's discuss it". This is Swedish for "I don't think that is a good idea". It should be added that my colleague is my boss.
We really have some communication flaws here. Us Swedes should work on speaking out and anyone working with us needs to know that this is how we operate currently.
